National Treasure

I was the University of Maryland go-to person for anyone who wanted to shoot movies on campus. We scored big when the director of National Treasure: Book of Secrets chose the campus for two scenes.  After weeks of coordinating with the location manager and convincing campus people this would be really great, the shoot was set for the day before Easter. What was supposed to be a warm spring day started out with two inches of snow on the university’s huge mall, the most important location. The Terp grounds crew helped the movie folks clear the snow, and by afternoon, it looked like a sunny day in May.  Co-star Jon Voight talked to students and fans, let people take their pictures with him. Nicholas Cage…well, he didn’t.  (Photo courtesy of John Consoli, University of Maryland)
