Down in a Navy Submarine
When I was at the US Naval Academy, Director of Feature Services for the Public Affairs Office, a sub was in Annapolis to take midshipmen out for a few hours of summer training. My Navy boss said “Get on that boat, see what these midshipmen do.” We dove, sliced through the Chesapeake, and when the skipper told me to announce “Surface, surface, surface,” because a woman’s voice on a sub wakes up the crew, I said “Yikes, you’re kidding.” He then ordered me to do it. Aye, aye sir. To my surprise, the crew did what I said, and we surfaced.
